Description

The project involves the construction of two single-family villas on the San Lorenzo hill. In the design approach, various architectural forms and typologies were studied. We started with the classic two-story house with a slate roof and plastered façades in traditional colors, but the result was that this typology highlighted the new constructions, which overlapped and diminished the historical building present on the lot.

Therefore, the idea of the traditional building was abandoned in favor of a more modern, low-volume with a suspended garden roof, and the use of natural materials and colors. Shapes and materials are studied to blend in with the territory as much as possible. For the two buildings, a contemporary style and natural materials in warm colors were chosen. Split stone, wood, and corten metal were extensively used. The stone allows the volumes to blend with the existing retaining walls, while wood and metal evoke the colors of the earth and olive tree trunks, and the windows reflect the surrounding landscape.
